Predator PC Performance
Maximizing PC Performance
When establishing new PCs or VMs, default PC performance is usually fine. However, when maximum PC performance is desired or older PCs need to be utilized for Predator applications, we recommend making the following improvements:
- Within Windows Task Manager, review open applications by CPU, Memory and Disk to spot resource hogging applications
- Uninstall applications that are no longer used
- Close applications when they are not in use
- Reboot the PC occasionally
- Verify that Windows Power mode is set to Best Performance
- Verify that all local disk drives are not full or nearly full
- Verify that Windows Visual Effects are set to Adjust for best performance
- Review and address all red stop sign flagged events within the Windows Event Viewer
- Update to the latest Windows version
- Update to the latest Windows device drivers
- Update to the latest PC firmware
- Update to the latest network device firmware
- Run the Disk Cleanup application and delete temporary files
- Verify that storage devices are setup to defrag automatically
- Disable Windows energy saving/sleep power modes
- Disable Windows energy saving/sleep network adapter modes
- If the PC is still using traditional hard drives, upgrade them to SSD drives
- If the PC has less than 8 GB of memory, increase the PC's memory
- If PC memory is too expense, try using Windows ReadyBoost with a flash drive
- Review Windows virtual memory settings to increase the paging file size
- Review internet access settings for performance improvements
- Review all file syncing applications for performance improvements
- Review all anti-malware applications for performance improvements
- Review internal certificate servers and make sure that Thawte certificates are up to date
Not all PCs require all of the above changes. Most of the time none of the above steps are required. The above list represents best practices to improve PC performance.
